Launch break! Watch the groundbreaking Biomass launch live at ESA

May 29 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Take a break and come and watch the Biomass live launch in the convivial atmosphere of the ECSAT Conference Centre with a coffee and croissant in your hand.

At 10:15 am (TBC) on Tuesday 29 April, ESA’s groundbreaking Biomass satellite will lift off on a Vega-C rocket from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana.

The launch will be screened live in the main conference room with refreshments and mingling opportunities post-launch – the launch time/window being about 45 minutes.

ESA’s Biomass forest mission uses novel space technology to deliver new information about the state of our forests and how they are changing. Importantly, the Biomass mission will further our knowledge of the role forests play in the carbon cycle, and hence in the climate system.

The Biomass satellite is designed and built by a consortium of more than 50 companies under Airbus UK as the prime contractor.

Biomass is also the first satellite to carry a radar instrument capable of penetrating the forest canopy to measure the biomass and height of forests consistently across the globe – and across different forest types.

Places are limited and available on a first come, first serve basis. Open to campus members only. Arrival from 10:00.

If you book a space and can no longer attend, please cancel on the app or contact the team here to allow others to take your place.
