Harwell Campus Named UK’s Most Successful Science Campus
Harwell Science and Innovation Campus has been recognised as the UK’s most successful science campus by the UK Science Park Association (UKSPA). This accolade highlights Harwell’s growth and its significant contributions to the UK’s innovation economy, particularly in fields like life sciences, space exploration, energy technology, and quantum computing.
A joint venture between Brookfield, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), and the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), Harwell has attracted over 50 new organisations in the last two years, including Moderna and the UK Space Agency. The campus has expanded its facilities, adding a new 300-person conference center, a street-food box park, and other amenities.
Harwell has invested over £300 million to develop 600,000 sq. ft of advanced manufacturing and scale-up space, and its community has grown from 6,000 to 7,500 people. The campus also engages the public, welcoming 18,000 visitors for its open day to showcase cutting-edge scientific work and inspire future generations.
Government funding will help further expand key national facilities, including the Diamond Light Source Synchrotron and the National Quantum Computing Centre.
Harwell’s success is attributed to the collaboration between public and private sectors, fostering an environment where innovation can thrive.
